What exactly is Chinese Medicine?

Chinese medicine is an ancient healing system composed of many modalities including acupuncture, herbology, Tui Na bodywork, nutrition, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Feng Shui, astrology and calligraphy. One of the foundations of Chinese medicine is the understanding that all living things possess a life-force commonly called Qi.

Qi flows within the body through energy streams called meridians. Each meridian stream reflects a particular internal organ within the body. Therefore, by regulating the Qi flow within each meridian, we are able to guide the body in restoring balance to its internal organs.

What is the Role of the Practitioner?

Our cells hold memories of every event we’ve experienced. Regardless of whether we are at peace with our vast experiences, traumas and joys, we hold these experiences within our bodies. It’s this holding on that creates imbalance within our physical, emotional and spiritual selves. This is reflected in how we eat, how we present outwardly to the world, what we feel in our muscles, joints and bones. This journey together focuses not only on the physical body, but it will also interact with the emotional and spiritual bodies.

When the body and mind are struggling to find balance, the practitioner’s role is to hold space, provide guidance and harness the intelligence present within your body. This is accomplished with the use of acupuncture, herbal medicine, Tai Chi, Tui Na, Qi Gong, sound, crystals and other therapies.
